Detailed Guide
How to Perform Umrah
A comprehensive step-by-step guide to performing Umrah correctly.
Preparation for Ihram
Perform Ghusl (full bath), apply unscented perfume on your body (not clothes), wear Ihram garments. For women, wear modest clothing covering entire body except face and hands.
Niyyah (Intention) & Talbiyah
Make sincere intention for Umrah and recite Talbiyah: "Labbayk Allahumma Umrah" followed by the full Talbiyah. Continue reciting Talbiyah until reaching the Kaaba.
Entering Masjid Al-Haram
Enter with right foot, recite Dua for entering mosque, perform two rak'ahs of Tahiyatul Masjid if possible.
Starting Tawaf
Stop reciting Talbiyah at the Black Stone corner. Start Tawaf from Hajar al-Aswad, kiss or point to it, and say "Bismillah Allahu Akbar".
Completing Tawaf
Perform 7 circuits around Kaaba. Men do Idtiba (right shoulder uncovered) and Raml (fast walking) for first 3 circuits. After completing, pray 2 rak'ahs behind Maqam Ibrahim.
Performing Sa'i
Go to Safa hill, recite Dua, then walk to Marwah (7 rounds). Green light area is for men to run. Supplicate between each round.
Halq / Taqsir
Men should shave their head completely (Halq) or trim hair (Taqsir). Women should trim a fingertip's length of hair.
Completion
Umrah is complete. You are now free from Ihram restrictions. Make Dua for acceptance and continue with good deeds.
